Reconstituting & Storage
Handle lyophilised peptide products from arrival through reconstitution with clear storage temperatures, preparation steps, and record-keeping reminders.
Start with the product notes
Always check the product page and any supplied handling notes before opening, reconstituting, or transferring a vial. Storage temperature, solvent compatibility, and usable life can vary by sequence and formulation.
Correct storage is the biggest controllable factor in maintaining peptide integrity. Lyophilised products can tolerate normal shipping conditions, but should be moved into cold storage promptly on arrival.
| Material state | Recommended storage | Handling note |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed lyophilised vial | −20°C preferred | Keep dry, sealed, and protected from light until use. |
| Short-term lyophilised vial | 2–8°C acceptable | Suitable for near-term handling unless product notes specify freezer storage. |
| Reconstituted solution | 2–8°C refrigerated | Record the date, concentration, solvent, and intended discard date. |
| Aliquoted solution | Product dependent | Use sterile labelled vessels and avoid unnecessary freeze-thaw cycles. |
A simple workflow for preparing a solution while keeping concentration records clear and repeatable.
Let the sealed vial equilibrate
Allow the sealed peptide vial and compatible solvent to reach room temperature before opening. This helps reduce condensation and supports smoother dissolution.
Calculate the target concentration
Use the Peptide Calculator to convert vial amount and solution volume into mg/mL, mcg/mL, microlitres, and U-100 reference units.
Add solvent slowly
Introduce the calculated solvent volume slowly down the inside wall of the vial. Avoid directing a strong stream at the lyophilised material.
Swirl gently until dissolved
Roll or swirl the vial gently. Do not shake vigorously, as excess foaming and bubbles can make inspection and measurement less reliable.
Label the vial
Record peptide name, batch, solvent, concentration, date reconstituted, and intended discard date.
Refrigerate and protect from light
Store reconstituted solutions at 2–8°C unless supplied product notes specify a different condition.
Practical checks that help keep each vial traceable, clean, and easier to audit.
Solvent compatibility
Use the solvent named by any supplied product notes. Some hydrophobic sequences may require a staged solvent approach before final dilution.
Incomplete dissolution
If particles remain after gentle swirling, pause and check the product guidance before changing temperature, pH, or solvent conditions.
Aliquot planning
Where appropriate, preparing labelled aliquots can reduce repeated vial access and minimise avoidable freeze-thaw cycles.
Volume control
Avoid unnecessary dilution unless the product notes call for it. Larger solution volumes can make measurement and storage less convenient.
Clear records
Keep batch number, concentration, solvent, storage condition, and reconstitution date together in your records.
Clean handling
Work in a clean environment, keep closures clean, and use fresh sterile consumables in line with your handling process.
